Pursuing Purpose

pursue

It drives us.  It helps us get up in the morning.  It impacts our work and home life.  It will determine the direction our lives take.  Purpose.  What gives you purpose?  Ever feel like your purpose is unclear?

Purpose drives people to accomplish amazing feats.  It leads us to make a difference, to leave our mark on our family, in our jobs, and throughout our community and world.  It defines our identity and inspires us.

A lack of purpose is crippling to a person.  It also defines us.  Have you ever seen the eyes of a person without purpose?  It is like looking at hopelessness.  It is an unforgettable experience.  Living without purpose will wreck you.

In this blog, I intend to inspire purpose in four ways:

1) Give practical advice regarding family and faith.  We really cannot escape our family.  Our family has the power to give us our highest highs and our lowest lows.  Although the actions of others are beyond our control, we do have the ability to be a positive influence in our families.  Few things in life will matter more than the mark we leave on our family.  I am no expert.  I have no degree on “how to have a happy family.”  However, I try to learn from others and from my own mistakes.  I would like to learn from you too.

For me, and many others, my overall purpose is wrapped up in my faith.  This is a difficult subject for some.  My desire is not to stir up uncomfortable feelings or to convince you to believe everything I believe.  I do hope you will make the next step on your faith journey.  It would make my day if something you read here helps you do that.

2) Show you what I have learned running a nonprofit.  From time to time people ask me for advice on setting up a nonprofit, raising funds, and working with volunteers.  In the spring of 2007, I started my nonprofit.  It is a faith-based nonprofit.  So not everything I do will apply to your nonprofit, but I will try to make it as practical as possible.

3) Share tools that I use to be more productive.  I have a thing for productivity tools.  I love technology and am regularly looking for better ways to improve my productivity.  I hope to give a good mix of tools so that whether you are in the tech field or are just learning about this internet thing, you will be encouraged to be more productive.  Please let me know if I go too fast.  I want to help and not discourage you.  Also, please share your tips, tricks and wisdom as well.

4) Create a vision cafe, from which you can walk away with new ideas.  I absolutely love to dream.  Rarely does a day go by that I do not say to someone, “I have an idea….”  When ideas team up with a clear and compelling vision, they are an unstoppable force.  So grab a cup of coffee (or tea) and join me as we dream and share our visions with one another.

Above all else, I would like AdamSuter.com to be a place you walk away from rejuvenated and motivated as you pursue purpose.

Hey, I’m Adam Suter. This is my personal blog. I am married to the love of my life, Michelle, and have three wonderful children. We live in Marietta, GA. I run a small nonprofit. Some of the things that fascinate me are faith, new ideas, people, stories, productivity, nonprofits, and my own children.
