Be Genuine: A Story About Dollar Rent A Car

This week I rented a car from Dollar Rent A Car in St. Louis. It was the best customer service experience I have ever had renting a car. First was the lady driving the shuttle from the airport. She asked why I was in town. I talked about visiting my Grandfather. I told her how he was suppose to have passed from cancer four years ago, but had not yet. She told me she was a cancer survivor. This lady was really nice and a pleasure to talk to. Then was the lady who checked me in. She was in her 20s. Extremely genuine! You can’t teach it like this.…

How Do You Make a Difference as a Family?

I just read 100+ Ways for Your Family to Make a Difference from Kristen at WeAreThatFamily.com. My wife shared this on Facebook recently. It is really pratical, so I wanted to pass it onto you. Tips: 1) Today: Read it through one time and set a time to read through it again later this week. 2) Another Day: Read it through and highlight 5 options you could do and want to do in the coming weeks. Pick a day next week to make your final decision. 3) Next Week: Research (if necessary) your top 5 options and pick one that is best for you. 4) Do one thing to make…

    ReEngineering My Morning Ritual

Next week the kids start school. This means our morning and evening schedules are going to change a bit. I work from home most of the time and want to be intentional with what Michael Hyatt calls his “morning ritual.” Essentially I am going to have two periods of time with access to the computer and total quietness. I’ll have from the time I get up until 6:15 and then from 7:15 to 8:15.  In addition to these two hours, I will have access to the computer along with minimal interruptions and quietness from 8:15 to 9:15. Here is my plan: 5:00 Get up. 5:15 Begin Blogging 6:15-7:15 Light Exercise Devo Time…

Creative Fundraisers and Serving the Homeless

At Crescent City Cafe this month, the coolest thing happened. A group of co-worker volunteers seriously invested some time into our homeless progam. They work at La Capitol Federal Credit Union (also on Facebook). First they raised money to give to us. They did a bake sale, which is pretty self explanatory. Then they did a “Jean Day” at work, where you could wear jeans to work if you donated $5 to Crescent City Cafe. I just love that. A simple creative way to raise funds for charity. Next they brought a group of volunteers at 7:00 am in the morning on a Saturday to serve the homeless with us.…

We Are Considering Homeschooling and Need Some Help

Our family is seriously considering homeschooling. I know, I just made half of you love us more and half think we just went off the deep end. Relax, both of you. Why are we doing this? There are many reasons why people homeschool. I have to be honest, some of you out there are a little crazy, as are your reasons. I still love you though. We have many, but our main reasons are twofold 1) We think it fits our family. 2) We want to continue pursuing our kids being bilingual (maybe tri) without paying an arm and a leg. Currently they are in a language immersion charter school…

    Vision and Your Business

Over the past year, our family ran into a great realtor. Her name is Sandie Bondi and she runs Real Estate 4-U (or on Facebook). She is fabulous at her job, extremely responsive, knowledgeable and experienced. If you are in the New Orleans area, I recommend her. In addition to seeing her do an awesome job for our family and a friend’s family, I noticed she has a vision. I found it at the end of her email in the signature. It read: “Making Friends and bringing them HOME!” I like that. It really fits Sandie. She helps you navigate through the highs and lows of realestate. She is your friend,…
