2 Tips for Living with Extended Family

Next month marks one year of living together as an extended family of 6 with my Mom. I have to say it has been pretty cool. My Mom and I work together from home as well.

Not sure if there are very many of you out there interested in this topic. Does it even have a name? Anyways, I wanted to put it out there for you and I can write more on it if you are interested.

Two quick tips:

1) Communication – As with all relationships, and especially those in your home, communication is key. If you aren’t good at communication, you need to do something about it. Of course, we can all continually improve in this area. Luckily, I grew up in a home with good communication. This followed me into marriage and into our household as it is today. Praise the Lord!

2) Boundaries – A lot can be written on this topic. Like the first, boundaries are important in all relationships. One piece of advice I received on this front was having two living spaces. This way if anyone needs to “get away” they can. In our case, both living spaces are open to everyone, but they still serve the same purpose.

Anyone out there living with extended family? How’s it going? Please share in the comments section or on social media. Feel free to email me if you don’t want it to be public. 🙂 I understand.
