Idea Addicts

New Year’s Resolutions Are So Overwhelming!

Happy New Year! Hope your 2015 was a good one. I am looking forward to seeing what the next 12 months holds.

So, I don’t know about you, but New Year’s Resolutions are pretty overwhelming to me. There is so much talk in January about self-improvement. My brain cannot handle all the ideas…all the pressure!

It gets complicated by the fact that I know 90% of it is talk and there is no real change going to occur. That is frustrating and it makes me want to hyperventilate just thinking about it.

Take a deep breath.

Okay take 3.

I have grabbed some of the great free resources that have come out via blogs and podcasts, but I just can’t use all of them right now. So I am saving them to check out next quarter. For me, I set goals and “resolutions” mostly by quarter. A bunch of annual goals is just too much for me.

Go simple.

There is nothing wrong with setting goals right now, but don’t make it complicated. Go simple and make it something you can do in the next 90 days.

If you are an idea addict like me, you get excited about a lot of things. I suggest a Quarterly Offsite where you can take a look at all your ideas and decide what you will do and what you will not do.

For now, though, just pick one thing that is simple, measurable and can be accomplished in the next 3 months. This will give you momentum for the next quarter and then the next. By the time next December roles around, you will have had a “successful” four quarters.

2016 is going to be a great year! Please share in the comments section or on social media what excites you most in the area of self-improvement in 2016. What is your one big idea?
