Work That Matters

Work Happens: Where Do You Go From Here?

As I write these words, a friend of mine has just lost their job. The emotions and stress are overwhelming. The future seems blurry.

Perhaps you have lost your job. Or maybe you own your own business, but, due to circumstances out of your control, you are at a crossroads. The future is unclear.

Maybe you are working hard at your current job, but you hate it. Or perhaps, despite generally feeling good about it, you know things are about to blow up.

As a business owner or employee, many times you have no influence over the changes that come your way. You work hard. You do a good job. But sometimes, things just happen.

Whether you are in this place now or know you are about to be, there is some good news. You do not have to live in despair. We all fall down, but we get to choose how to respond.

You get to choose if your current situation is your darkest hour or a turning point for your greatest opportunity. It all starts from within. If you do not feel like you have the spark within you to move in that direction, I want to give you a gift.

It is a question. For you to move in the direction you want to go in, you are going to need to ask it multiple times and actually answer it. Do not make this rhetorical. It is the launching point for your career, for your business, for your masterpiece.

Despite losing your job… Despite hating what you do… Despite having to make some very difficult decisions in your life and business…in order to turn things around, you must answer this one question.

What does this make possible?

This is the turning point for you. Answering this question, points you in the right direction. It allows you to see this only as part of the journey. I gives you permission to see your current situation as a turning point, rather than an ending point.

After all, this is what it is. You are not done yet. You have more to do. Your purpose for being here, has only just begun. Choose to see this as an opportunity, not as a tragedy.

What does this make possible?

This situation is going to open a door for you. The future is bright. Now to sit down and see what opportunities await you.

What about that thing you have been wanting to do? What about that project, business or idea you have always had an excuse not to do? Now you can go make it happen.

Come up with some options. Decide on a clear direction. Develop a plan. Take action. Get in the game.
