Idea Addicts

The Striving Idea Addict

Maybe you have experienced the rush of an amazing idea. It comes to you. It is perfect. You think about it. You think about it some more. It is not going away. Several days later, it is still on your mind. You must actually do this one. The energy it brings to your body. You are hooked.

Then Monday morning comes. You have to go to work. There is no room for your big idea, or any big ideas here. Just get your job done.

You go home. You are loved, maybe, but there is no time for ideas. Responsibilities mount. Commitments scream for first priority.

Your friends, family and co-workers jockey for your spare time. You know a lot of people. You have years of relationships from church, mosque or temple. You have neighbors. You meet people online through social media, fantasy football and other games. Old friends come around occasionally. You meet new people at networking events. If you have a family, each member has their own collection of relationship circles.

You also record your ideas. You keep them with your collection of conference notes, blog posts, podcasts and books. You have a lot of books. You have never read many of them…or you have. You at least started them. It is hard to keep up with all the books recommended or even given to you, much less the ones you actually want to read.

In between it all your idea goes where all your ideas go. In fact it goes where everything goes, onto a list, into a pile, on top of another collection. You will come back to it one day. At some point, you will not be so busy. There will be a day when you are not overcome by responsibility, plans and relationships. Your calendar will be empty. Your todo list will be a blank sheet. Your life will be available. There will be a day when you are not drowning in it all.

You are not alone. Other Idea Addicts have felt this same feeling. We know what it is like to try and manage it all and still want to make a difference with your ideas. We know the land of overwhelm you are living in.

You are striving.

As you try and spin all the plates, every once in a while, one falls and breaks. You are grinding away at life, but you can’t keep up. Your hope is withering away and with it your ideas are drying up.

Being a Striving Idea Addict can be extremely frustrating. You are never caught up. You can never do enough. Your ideas remain as figments of your imagination, a place to escape, rather than solutions to real problems, possibilities to change lives and doors to opportunity.

You are a Striving Idea Addict.
