How to Stop Being a Hoarder

I’m kind of a hoarder. You wouldn’t know it if you came to my house, but it is in my genes. My grandfather was a hoarder. My dad was a hoarder. I just can’t seem to let go of things. This includes physical stuff or information. On the latter, Evernote allows me to keep all kinds of information in one place (there is my Evernote plug for this post). I am. I am a hoarder. I have begun making some changes in this area of my life. A couple reasons for this are… 1) I don’t use most of the stuff. 2) I can’t find my stuff. (This is when…

3 Questions To Help You Stop Hoarding

I have a confession. I come from a long line of hoarders. My father and my grandfather before him could not throw anything away. I also sufffer from this disease. Recently I threw away fifteen 30 gallon bags of paper going back over 10 years. There is still more that I need to scan into Evernote and throw away. It was not just paper either. I went through piles of stuff, my books and even am looking at computer files. This is a difficult task for me. I keep telling myself, “If you get rid of this, even if you haven’t needed it in five years, you will need it next…

However, being a book hoarder may not lead to your desired result of reading more. Hoarding is unhealthy. When you hoard, you have to protect, manage, organize and replace whatever you are hoarding. Typically this takes time and money. I would also argue hoarding is bad for ideation…an important activity for us Idea Addicts! If you are a book hoarder, one of your famous lines to yourself and others is probably, “Oh, I need this book. It is…

What Kind Of “Collector” Are You?

I love books! I would not consider myself a “collector.” I’m more of a “hoarder.” There are more books in my house than I could possibly ever read. Regularly, I am adding more to my “collection” and others help me with my addiction. Because I am an Idea Addict, I have quite an array of books. They cross the span of genres. And I seem to be finding new ones all the time. Several months ago, I had the opportunity to help a friend move. This friend is also a book hoarder. He is older than me and has a larger collection. He plans to never let a book go. At…

    10 Idea Addict Hacks

As Idea Addicts, we have to learn how to best function with this gift. Otherwise, we will find ourselves in a frenzied state. Do not let your ideas paralyze you. Here are some hacks you might find helpful. #1 An Umbrella No, not a physical umbrella. An “umbrella” is a covering that gives you structure but also gives you freedom. It allows you to ideate to create new things but all within a structure that is moving in a particular direction. In my case, as a coach, speaker, writer, I have the ability to try many new ideas, but I keep them under my business umbrella. #2 Margin to Ideate…
