    The IDEA Loop

When you have an idea, the following process will help you gain clarity and move forward. Ideate First list all your ideas. Imagine a clean whiteboard. There is no wrong idea. Do not edit. Just write everything down.  Decide  Come to clarity on one idea. Decide to move in one clear direction. Based on all of your ideas, which is the one best option. What is essential?  Eliminate Write down your top alternate options. Decide they are extra. Get rid of them. Act What action do you need to take? What is your next step? When will it be done? Who will hold you accountable?  This is a process I…

3 Idea Addict Books To Read Next

Recently, I shared 6 Books for Idea Addicts. I have read all 6 and love them. Make sure to check out number 5. 🙂 Seriously though, all of them are on my reread list. On my list next to read are the following. I think they will be particularly helpful for Idea Addicts like me. The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer I’ve seen the author speak a few times. I wrote down a quote he shared, a few years ago. It was from one famous person to another. “You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life in our…

    Coronavirus 4: A Better Response

It is said that you cannot choose what happens in life. You can only choose how to respond. The temptation when interruptions, inconveniences and tragedies strike is to spiral downward. This is one choice. We can choose to think negatively. We can be afraid. Or we can go in the other direction. We can choose to think positively. We can choose a more productive route. The one question that helps me gain momentum in the path of good is when I ask myself… What does this make possible? This is one of my favorite questions. As a coach, it is the most important question for me to ask, in most…

    Intentional Creativity

“What does that mean?” You are probably thinking, “You either are creative or you are not.” Or, if you are an artistic type, perhaps you would say, “You can’t manufacture creativity. It comes and goes.” I would like to push back to both of you. Here are two things I believe about creativity: 1) We are all creative. 2) Your environment determines your ability to create…and you decide on your environment. I could go on and flush these out a little more. Let’s stop here though and see what you think. Which of these two ideas is most difficult for you to believe? Please share in the comments section or…

    Halloween

Halloween is not a special day for us and our kids. I don’t know if it is because they grew up in New Orleans or because they are kids. Halloween is just another opportunity to dress up, like any other day. Other people happen to be joining in the fun though. Some of my readers probably have some pretty negative feelings about Halloween and possibly even Santa Clause and Christmas. That’s fine. I’m not interested in changing your stance. I would say this, “Inspire creativity in your children.” However you want to do that, is fine with me. As a parent of young children, I believe I really have no…

    Thank You Catalyst

Dear Catalyst, Thank you for Catalyst 2015 Awaken the Wonder. I’ve been to several Catalysts now and I always take away something. However, this year was different. It is sticking. I think there are 3 reasons for this. Theme First off, the theme (Awaken the Wonder) really resonated with me. I also think everyone involved did a fantastic job of weaving the theme throughout the event. We all need to dream, create and awaken the wonder within us. Vulnerability The speakers were so vulnerable. They did not speak out of theory. Rather they spoke life into us even in the midst of the difficult times they are in right now.…

Productive Creativity: Helping Creatives Manage Time and Create with Excellence

Creativity has always been a high value for me. I would not put myself on the super creative end when matched up against all creatives on the planet. However, I do love to create and am absolutely captivated by the creativity of others. So why a post on “Creativity” in the “Productivity” category of my blog? Those two don’t go together. They are opposites. Or are they? I actually believe everyone is made to create. Sometimes we are discouraged from creativity. Some other values stamp out the creativity bone in us. I do not believe productivity is the culprit though. Productivity is about efficiently using your time to accomplish the…

    Measuring Productivity…Not!

I was sitting down to write a post on productivity. I have a list of books I want to eventually do reviews on. One on the list is Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand. This is a biography, not a nonfiction productivity book. I got to thinking. Is it productive to read biographies or even fiction books for that matter? Part of me thinks not. I struggle to see the direct correlation such reading has to productivity. However, just because I can’t measure, or find it hard to measure, the productivity of certain activities, this does not make them unproductive. Creativity is a product of such reading, which is not easily measured.…
