    Noise

I don’t know about you, but there is a lot of noise in my life. From actual noise, to advertisements, to social media, to another phone notification…Oh, and then there is email! My life is full of noise. All kinds of distractions that do not really fit well into work or personal life. They actually pull me away from relationships and real work. I yearn for quiet, for stillness. I desire a sense of peace. I long for deep community. But the noise continually crashes in. Is your life noisy? What are you doing about it?

    Priorities or Priority?

“The word priority came into the English language in the 1400s. It was singular. It meant the very first or prior thing. It stayed singular for the next five hundred years. Only in the 1900s did we pluralize the term and start talking about priorities.” ~ Greg McKeown in Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less In our crazy busy times…with all there is to do and get done…with so many needs to be met…is it possible to have one priority? Between Jobs?

Are you between jobs? This can be a very challenging time emotionally. In addition to your job search, make sure to do the following. It will really help you stay sane. 1) Don’t freak out. Remain calm. You can choose to do this. Also, it will make your interviews and job searching much better. 2) Establish habits. You normally fill a full work week with activities. You probably are used to going into an office. Being at home can be disorienting. Establish some habits and a daily routine. 3) Read. Consider this a time for self-improvement. Use it to read, listen to podcasts, etc. Improve yourself for the next job.…

    Choose Your Favorite

Can we choose what we enjoy? For example, if your favorite dessert is chocolate cake, could you decide to make it key lime pie? Or if you are a football fanatic, could you choose another sport instead? Is it a choice?

    Fear and Margin

As I looked down at my newly brewed cup of tea this morning, I noticed that I had not filled up my cup. There was plenty of room for more tea. Sure, I would not spill it. This is the advantage of margin. Things do not get out of control. Life does not spill over and burn you. On the other hand, I would be missing out on two to three sips of my precious tea. This fear of missing out (FOMO) nearly led me to fill up my cup. Had I done so, I would have had to either carefully and slowly transported the tea OR (and yes, we…
