3 Idea Addict Books To Read Next

Recently, I shared 6 Books for Idea Addicts. I have read all 6 and love them. Make sure to check out number 5. 🙂 Seriously though, all of them are on my reread list. On my list next to read are the following. I think they will be particularly helpful for Idea Addicts like me. The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer I’ve seen the author speak a few times. I wrote down a quote he shared, a few years ago. It was from one famous person to another. “You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life in our…

    Homeschool: Raising Readers

One of the best things we can do as parents is to plant in our kids a love for reading. After all, reading is foundational for all other types of education. It is the building block on which everything else is built. Two things, before we continue. First, learning to read is not the same thing as loving to read or identifying as a Reader. I have known how to read for decades but only recently became a Reader. Second, no, you do not have to homeschool to raise Readers. Our family loves homeschooling, but it is not for everyone. This is fine. However, since you are homeschooling right now,…

Becoming a Reader: 3 Phrases Readers Don’t Use

Over the past year, I have taken some significant strides forward in my desire to become a reader. Perhaps I’ll share the reasons for this change later. As I’ve made the switch, I have found there are three phrases that have been part of my vocabulary, even part of my identity, for too long. These phrases have held me back in my desire to be a reader and to be a better reader. They have inhibited my love of learning and ability to grow as a person. Well, it is time to let them go. Here they are, along with some alternatives. 1) “I’m not a reader.” Seems obvious, but…

The Read-Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease

In 1979, Jim Trelease, a writer and staff artist for the Daily News, self-published his first edition of The Read-Aloud Handbook. In it he implored parents and teachers to read aloud to children. In a few weeks, the eighth edition of the book comes out. The results, he says, are clear. “The single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children.” Reading, Trelease says, is the building block for all other education. The book includes a plethora of stats and studies to substantiate his claims. His goal, however is not to make better readers, but to instill a love for…

    Are You A Rereader

Are you a reader? Are you a rereader? That is, do you reread books? I’m realizing not all books are equal. There are so many good books, but I’m considering a shift towards only reading great books. Of course, I would define what is a great book for me. Then I would seek to reread my “great books list.” I’ve asked a few people if they reread books and usually the answer is “no.” There are some people who do though, and I have some questions for you. Why do you reread books? What genre of books are you rereading? What qualifications do you have for rereading a book?

    “Reference Books”

Do you have any “reference books” in your house? Yeah, me too. I have quite the book collection. Nothing wrong with books. In fact, books are awesome. We all need to read more. However, being a book hoarder may not lead to your desired result of reading more. Hoarding is unhealthy. When you hoard, you have to protect, manage, organize and replace whatever you are hoarding. Typically this takes time and money. I would also argue hoarding is bad for ideation…an important activity for us Idea Addicts! If you are a book hoarder, one of your famous lines to yourself and others is probably, “Oh, I need this book. It is…
