    Creativity: Blessing or Curse?

If I received a dollar for every time I had an idea, I would be so rich I could end world hunger. “I have an idea” is pretty much my favorite phrase. There is a good chance it drives those closest to me a little crazy. Now, my kids are even starting to use this phrase, which I love! I’m not always sure if having ideas is a blessing or a curse. It is hard to focus, whether it be on a specific task or from a broader perspective. Seems like some pretty successful men and women are “idea people” but I don’t have a bunch of businesses that have…

Productivity Tip: Waking Up at 3 a.m.

As I write this post it is 4:45 a.m. I have been awake since 3:00 and probably have not used my time very well. Just wanted to share some lessons learned. I got up at 3:30 and the past hour and fifteen minutes has been used surfing the internet from one idea to another. There is nothing wrong with this in and of itself. Much of it has been work related, but at the end of it all, I don’t have anything accomplished. So next time I wake up at 3:00, I am going to try doing the following: 1) Develop a quick plan for the next few hours. 2)…

Men Only: Resource for Dads and Husbands

Yes, men only. So if you are a woman, please flip to the next post. 🙂 A friend on Facebook shared 10 Questions to Ask Your Wife Every Year. Great read. Guys, this is good. And don’t tell Michelle, my wife, about it. I plan to use these. Then I started looking through the AllProDad.com site. Wow! Some great resources for husbands and dads. I’m going to have to read some more of these posts! For now, I just want to recommend 10 Questions to Ask Your Wife Every Year. Read it and tell me what you think, men. Share in the comments section.

6 Ideas for Using Facebook Groups with Your Ministry, Nonprofit, or Cause

Over the past several years of being on Facebook, I have seen Facebook Groups used in various ways. I thought I would share some of these in order to help you consider ideas you hadn’t previously. To clarify, I am not talking about Facebook Timelines or Facebook Pages, but Facebook Groups. Facebook Timelines are personal pages. This is what you sign up for when you first join facebook. Most likely you know a little bit about these already. Facebook Pages are public sites within Facebook. They function a lot like websites. Although they are similar to Groups, they are not the same. Facebook Groups are the focus of this post.…

Sometimes The Most Productive Thing To Do Is Rest

This past week my plan was to rest. I intentionally chose to not publish any blog posts, to take it easy and spend time with family. Then towards the end of the week I was going to get a head start on this next week by working in the mornings. Well, I finally caught the cold going around in our family. The voice in my head said, “See this is why you don’t rest. Now you are going to be behind because you didn’t work when you were healthy.” Do you ever tell yourself this lie? So I was stuck in pickle. Do I rest some more or do I…

    Holiday Productivity Tip: Rest

It’s important to rest. It’s important to rest. It’s important to rest. I’m working on actually believing this. There is something in me that equates rest with laziness. Can you relate? Probably some deep insecurity I have. The fact is, that we all need to rest. A friend of mine once shared with me the importance of having periods of rest, rhythms annually, monthly, and weekly that include rest. This particular person takes a day off each week. Crazy! I know. So I come, as a fellow struggler in this area, to say to you this week, “You need to take a break.” So spend some time doing things that…

    Job Idea #1: Dishware Rental

A few years ago I was hosting an event for about 40-50 people. It was going to be a nice dinner with real plates and silverware. The only problem was that the location we were renting didn’t have plates and silverware. What did we do? First I priced renting plates, silverware, glasses, bowls, salad plates, tablecloths, etc. Then I went to Walmart to see what it would cost to buy these things. Turns out, if we ended up hosting two dinners for 50 people, we would pay the same at Walmart as we would for renting these things. The Job Idea: Go buy 50 settings for a nice dinner and…

    5 Tips for Year-End Gifts

If you are like me, you are probably preparing to send a check (or two or three) to your favorite charity in the coming week. Either you are catching up or you are pulled by a serious need that you can help meet. Whatever the reason, you are choosing to make a difference in the lives of others by giving financially. Here are some tips: 1) Monthly – After you give your year-end gifts, consider joining your favorite charity’s monthly financial support team. These commited givers form the core of every nonprofit. 2) Pick One – Rather than dividing up your donations over many charities, consider giving a larger donation to…

How to Stop Being a Hoarder

I’m kind of a hoarder. You wouldn’t know it if you came to my house, but it is in my genes. My grandfather was a hoarder. My dad was a hoarder. I just can’t seem to let go of things. This includes physical stuff or information. On the latter, Evernote allows me to keep all kinds of information in one place (there is my Evernote plug for this post). I am. I am a hoarder. I have begun making some changes in this area of my life. A couple reasons for this are… 1) I don’t use most of the stuff. 2) I can’t find my stuff. (This is when…
