    Coaching: Ready. Set. Go!

I have launched my Coaching business! As mentioned previously, this May I went to Dan Miller’s Coaching with Excellence. Leaving the event, I set July 1st as my deadline for having something up on my site. On June 30th, I went live with my Coaching Page! With several years of experience in coaching in the nonprofit arena, I am looking forward to this new adventure. My hope is to help difference-makers as they create work that matters. Over the next few months, you will start to see some changes to the site as I expand what I offer here and narrow my niche. I hope you find it helpful as you do…

Get Away On A Personal Retreat

This past week I took a couple of mornings away from family and work to do a Quarterly Offsite. It was a great time of goal setting, prioritizing my life and resting. I was able to refocus on what is most important and add margin back into my life.   Time, Information and Relationships Typically I have taken a trip out of town each Spring to do a Personal Retreat. Normally I would focus on my vision, and then prioritize, according to my vision, the three areas of my life that tend to creep and consume: 1) Time – Sometimes this would come first because I typically have multiple ideas…

    You Have Margin

“No I do NOT!” At least that is what I thought when the preacher brought this subject up recently. I don’t remember the topic of the sermon. (Stop judging me.) I just remember him saying, “We all have margin.” He clarified. Even though I don’t feel like I do have margin, I do. See, for most of us reading this post, we all are figuring out what to do with our extra time and money. We are not preoccupied with where we are going to live and what we are going to eat. This means you have margin. “I don’t get it.” Well, the point is you do not have…

    Over 50?

Are you over 50? Are you thinking about or already retired? Well, stop it. There is more for you to do. God is not done with you. Your purpose on this planet, in your community and with your family and friends, it is not complete. A wise old man once said, “I am never going to retire. People who retire die.” It is true. Also true is that you are not done yet. So do not let anyone (including yourself) tell you any different. You are important. There is value for you to add in the lives of others. Just felt like this all needed to be said. Thoughts? Please…

    Vacation with Purpose

I have an idea. As you head out on vacation this summer, why not do something that matters? Perhaps you would consider connecting with a local nonprofit to serve one afternoon. Another option might be to pray for the people you run into…mostly to yourself or with those with you, but you may run into someone needing you to pray with them. I’m not suggesting you turn your vacation into work. Rather, just add some purpose to your trip. Help someone. Make a difference. I’m still thinking this idea through. What are some more ideas for someone to serve others while on vacation? Please share in the comments section or…

Focus on Your Goal, Nothing Else

Do you ever get distracted? I do. In life I am easily distracted by people, needs and opportunities. It is good to be open to interruptions, but if you have a goal, you can’t let distractions keep you from where you need to be. You must focus. People, needs and opportunities are all good things. In fact, they should all be a priority. However, you can’t serve all people, meet all needs or pursue every opportunity. You must focus. Here is another story from my children. We were swimming recently and our two oldest were racing across the pool. The older was using a kick-board to make it “even.” Still…

Powerbot: My Secret for Integrating Evernote and Gmail

One of the challenges of Inbox Zero, that is clearing your email inbox daily, are 1) emails that require additional work (anything over 2 minutes) and/or 2) emails requiring you to come back to them at a future date. I absolutely love seeing an empty email inbox. However these are two barriers I run into regularly. My answer to this problem is Powerbot. This productivity tool allows me to quickly move emails out of my inbox to Evernote. Of course, Evernote gives every user a unique email to send emails to, however, Powerbot allows me to quickly select what notebook I want the email to go to, tag it, leave…

    You are Wrong!

When I was a kid, every once in awhile, my dad would say something that would stick with me. I don’t know if he realized it at the time, but some of those lines and stories would become foundational to me. He probably wasn’t thinking so at the time. Recently I had the opportunity to share some wisdom with my son. Realizing the potential impact on his life, I decided to be intentional, to stop him and make sure he really heard me. I don’t remember the backstory but I had said something to CJ and reality turned out to be different. He found me and started repeating, “Daddy, you…

    Coaching with Excellence May 2015

This past week I went to Coaching with Excellence by Dan Miller of 48Days.com, 48Days.net and 48 Days to the Work You Love. It was AMAZING! Thank you to Dan, his family and their team for putting it on. Going into the training I had 3 questions I needed answers to: 1) Is coaching for me? Yes. The answer is yes. I kind of knew this before, but I am really looking forward to it now. 2) What kind of coaching and which niche are for me? This one has been a little harder. I believe I have it but need to do some follow up. 3) What are my next steps? At…

    Stop Overfilling Your Cup

What is your hot beverage of choice? Tea? Coffee? I know there are some hot chocolate drinkers out there. So, when you are pouring your wake-me-up drink each morning, do you fill it up all the way? I don’t know about you, but I do. With my tea, I will even put in more scolding hot water after I take the teabag out. I overfill it. Then I balance my cup, like I’m on a tightrope, to my chair, hoping to not spill any. Of course, nearly every time I do. It either creates a mess for me to clean up or burns my hands. Occasionally I’ll get it on…
