Are you worried about teaching your children everything they need to know before they leave your house?

This is a common fear parents have. We worry there are going to be gaps in our kids education that will hold them back.

Sarah MacKenzie, author, speaker and podcaster challenged an audience I was part of once. She simply asked, “Are there gaps in your education?”

Wow! That hit me hard. For most of you that didn’t know, I moved nearly every year of my life. I went to three high schools in three states. There are gaps in my education for sure. This does not stop me though. I love to learn! Also, I love to improve myself.

The following quote comes from MacKenzie’s book, The Read-Aloud Family, and was also a big encouragement.

When I’m speaking at a homeschooling conference, I often ask the crowd of parents to raise their hands if they are worried about teaching their children everything they need to know before their kids leave home. Without fail, nearly everyone raises their hand. Then I ask, “How many of you think it’s possible to teach your children everything they need to know before they leave home?” The stillness of the room speaks for itself.

There are going to be gaps in your kids education, no matter what education you give them. Take a deep breath. Pray. Do the best you can. Love them well.
