Work That Matters

Coronavirus 3: What Is God’s Will For My Life?

If you are like a lot of people, this season is causing a lot of chaos in your life, particularly around your work. It is interesting. In some ways we have less to do. In other ways, the work can seem overwhelming.

You may be struggling with identity questions. It may start with “What am I going to do?” Later it turns into “Who am I?” The lack of security in your work can lead to a struggle for purpose. Then you come to the big question!

God, what is your will for my life?

If you are a person of faith, this can be a necessary question. You need an answer for it. Yet it seems illusive.

A while back, someone challenged me with a better question, two actually. These questions shift the focus off of us as individuals and back onto God. They assume God is at work in the world.

God, what is your will? How do I join you in what you are doing?

In the midst of all that is happening right now, in the world and in your life, know God is at work. In the middle of your job situation spiraling out of control, God is in control. God is going to weave the good and the bad together for his purposes, his good purposes.

Instead of asking “What is God’s will for my life,” let’s ask a better question.

God, what are you doing and how do we join you in what you are doing?

Hey, I’m Adam Suter. This is my personal blog. I am married to the love of my life, Michelle, and have three wonderful children. We live in Marietta, GA. I run a small nonprofit. Some of the things that fascinate me are faith, new ideas, people, stories, productivity, nonprofits, and my own children.
